What I learned from the Social Media

I really haven't been doing this for too long, it's only been a couple of months since I started the blog and opened my Twitter account, also Facebook and MyI really haven't been doing this for too long, it's onlybeen a couple of months since I started the blog and opened my Twitter account, also Facebook and MySpace and all that stuff. It's been quite a ride though.

I learned that there's a whole other side to the internetfrom what I’m used to, I used to go online to read the news, check email, andresearch programming stuff for work, that was about it, also the occasional TVepisode and funny videos on YouTube, but after I started "tweeting"and "blogging" I found, more from tweeting than blogging, thatthere's millions of people that spend a big part of their day just talking toother people who, in most cases, they haven't even met. I see people creatingtheir own websites to post thoughts and views on current events, or maybe justvent personal stuff, It’s a really good exercise if you know how to do itcorrectly, and I can tell you right now, from all the blogs and websites I'veseen out there, I don't even know what I'm doing.

The Social Media has given a voice to people that otherwisewould be pretty much unknown, it has given the opportunity to lots of people toreach out and express their thoughts on many, many issues. There's differentkind of bloggers and tweeters out there, there's people that do it for fun, other for work, others just do it to try and get people to think like they do,to try and "guide" people into following a belief, it can bepolitical view, a religious blog, or maybe just a blog on how "my favoriteproduct is way better than yours and yours should die". The passion thatpeople pour into this blogs is amazing; they want people to know what they arefeeling, what they are thinking, why you should think like them, and probablywhat would happen if you don't.

My view is this, use it as you like and let other people useit as THEY like, if they don't like what you do, then there's someone out therethat will like it and will read and comment on it. Don't worry, I've seen thatthere's tons of people out there that will, from the goodness of their heart, help you achieve whatever goal you have set for yourself when you clicked thatbutton "create account"; look for them, reach out.

The Social Media world isn't evil. It's just powerful and out ofcontrol.

NXE, Twitter and iPhone.

OK, I have to be frank about something. The only reason I've been so anal about getting the NXE before anyone (sorry Major) is because I want to watch netflix on my TV. That's it, today I installed it and it looks GREAT!, it's really nice, I can't wait to start playing the party games and all that, the way they redesigned the whole interface looks great, and I did a pretty good job matching my avatar to me, it's not exactly like me but very close, good job xbox live team, thanks for this.

One of the things I'm going to be testing is the game install, I just don't like very much the sound of the disc in tray while in play, it socks and it's really loud. Let's see if they improved that. The way they integrated the blades into the whole NXE it's great, you can access the blades even when in play, that's just awesome.

On a different subject, I'm doing my best to tweet a lot, but it's hard, half the time i'm on twitter is getting up to date on @juliaroy, she tweets the crap out of the site and you have to read fast, she also has this great show called "Tweet Week" where you can learn a lot of stuff about twitter and has a great section called "hilarious tweets" that brightens my day everytime. It's really good, check it out here. http://twitter.com/juliaroy.

Another thing I've been using a lot is my new iPhone, that thing is amazing and everyone should get one man, you can get almost any application for free, it's really good. Couple of flaws, hangs at least once a week, but other than that works great.

Next one I'll have some news and probably start doing this more as news come in.

The road ahead

So the election worked out fine, I voted for Obama, I thinkhe’ll do a good job, I just hope that we can get the country back to where itbelongs as soon as possible, it’s really sad to hear about all the people thatare losing their homes because of the mortgage crisis, it’s really stupid thatthis has been going on for a while and Washington didn’t do anything to stopthis from happening. We need better regulation of big corporations.

I think everyone should focus on doing their part on helpingthe President-Elect and his future staff fix this mess, I know republicans areskeptical about his abilities to govern with a biased congress, but I think it’sa good thing, remember, democrats are not going to vote in favor of crazyregulations just because the president is a democrat, I don’t think that wouldhappen, if we see down the road something we don’t like we have to start actingfast, write your congressman, your senator, write every single person that getsa say on anything that was elected by you and tell them what you think and toback your decision up, we have to start telling people to exercise their rightto complain and for their congressman or senator to act on behalf of the peoplethat got them that job, me for instance, I’ll write to Senator Reed orCongresswoman Titus if I feel that some legislation is going to damage me, I’lllet them know, everyone should.

I’ve seen all kinds of reactions from people about ourPresident-Elect; I’ve seen African-Americans rejoice on the outcome, I’ve seenrepublicans cry, I just think that we should just watch carefully and bevigilant on what’s going to happen in the next 4 years. If your candidate lost, think on how you can make the candidate that won listen to your opinion andneeds and meet them. Start acting NOW.

Working, Playing, Life.

Well, my very first blog entry. Nice. I see people on the internet all the time with their blogs that a lot of people read and comment on, peoplejust go crazy writing all day and night, I don't know where they get the timeto do it, I find it very interesting, most of us are out there working all day,in my case, writing code all day, and still they have the time to sit down forat least an hour and write stuff, well, I decided I’ll take an hour or so outof my day to write too, probably no one will read anything I write but myfamily. I love my family. I miss them like crazy, I used to live in Venezuelaabout 2 and a half years ago, going to college, working (again, writing code),going out with my girlfriend (now wife) Valentina, it was awesome, everyweekend all the family will come to our place and we would barbecue and eattons of food, that was pretty nice, to be able to share with your family acouple hours and just talk, joke around, it’s cool, you guys should try itsometime.

When I moved back to the US, I say back because I was born hereand used to live here, I found myself utterly alone, I came back to find a nicejob, a place to live, so I could go back and get my future wife, and I did, in3 months I was back in Venezuela getting here and heading to Los Angeles forgood, we where there until March ‘08 when a company in Las Vegas fetched me andwe moved here, it’s being very nice, hot as hell in the summer but still verynice.

About a year ago after a couple of months of begging (my wifecontrols my money and there’s nothing I can do, or want to do, about it), mywife gave me permission to by an Xbox 360, It was like freaking Christmas, Ispent about a week to get it on the mail from dell, whose shipping servicessucks by the way, and when it arrived it was as awesome as I imagined. I’vebeen playing it ever since, if you guys want to play some online games shoot mea message or ad me as a friend, my Gamertag is blacktone vb, you can see theGamerCard on the left.

Right now I’m just waiting to see what happens with the election,I voted already, for Obama, I just think he’s going to do a better job, I knowhe doesn’t have a lot of experience, but still, he’s got a better plan thanMcCain. I actually don’t know anything about McCain’s plan because all he’sdone is run attack ads, I think politicians should focus on what they are goingto do for this country to get us out of the depression, yes depression!, andstop attacking each other, let’s start working towards fixing this problem people,it’s not going to fix itself.
